Het archeologische onderzoeksteam Weylandyutani dat bij freyas prospect op planet BG-386 is ingedeeld, heeft per ongeluk iets opgegraven dat alleen het biowapenteam dat hen schaduwt had gehoopt dat ze zouden vinden. Een eeuwenlang inactieve, dodelijke en parasitische levensvorm wordt gewekt en begint de kolonie af te slachten. Er wordt een ervaren team Amerikaanse koloniale mariniers op af gestuurd om de kolonie te  redden, de schade te beperken en de levensvorm te zoeken en vernietigen. Tegelijkertijd pikt een oud ras van jagers een noodsignaal op.
